One thing I love about living in New York City is public transportation (the MTA). Sure it sometimes makes me late (like last night when I got to the cafe at the new Alice Tully Hall after it had closed) but overall I love being able to travel for pretty cheap knowing that I am also helping the environment.
Unfortunately -Â the MTA is not doing so well and there could be major service cuts, price increases and no new renovations unless people speak up.
Public transportation is vital to the sucess of New York City - it is not only better for our planet but it is how most of us get to work (and everywhere else) - esp those of us without a lot of income (which is more and more of us these days).
So please please takepart to sign the Keep New York Moving petition @ http://ga3.org/campaign/adv_keepnymovggen

Petitions are great first start to get people involved in political change. However, I have found a letter, e-mail or phone call to the powers that be is far more effective. That personal touch puts a fire under her/his bums. ^_^ For a list of your political representatives (state & national) visit http://vote-smart.org.
