Birds in Europe are already experiencing the damaging effects of climate change, including reduced ranges and populations, according to a new study released today. The disturbing realizations were drawn from data collected over decades from a continent-wide monitoring network and computer models forecasting the impact of global warming. According to author Richard Gregory of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in Britain.
If we don’t take our foot off the gas now, our indicator shows that there will be many much worse effects to come.
I suppose “gas” would be the operative word, in the case of our need to curb greenhouse gas emissions. The study suggest that three times as many species of birds will be threatened by climate change, than those that will benefit from even a small rise in global temperatures. And while I suppose we could be happy about those that will do well in warmer conditions, I think we all better hope that swift action is taken to prevent the potential “global havoc” that the study predicts.

Hi Denny, climate change is also going to play havoc with food, particularly in developing nations. It’s also the women who will carry the heaviest burden here: http://tiny.cc/zdVwO
This is such a needed post. I think many people are experiencing ‘green-fatigue’. There’s need for reminders.
Thanks, Abby
We will be back to survival of the fittest very soon.
Now that our resources have mostly been used up, survival of the richest will stop.
Oil and gas are sucking the life out of our earth.
Some birds will survive.
Not sure about man.
Fuels are in just about every aspect of our lives.
We all talk about going green, cutting down on water useage, etc., but if you really check on some of the people talking, they are just lip service.
I for one (I admit) am lazy about going green. Also in some things it takes money that we all don’t have at the moment in this economy. If cities could get their communities together
and formulate quick and useful plans in their cities, there might be progress made in saving energy and the atmosphere.
