As we wind down the Sunday vegetarian post of awesomeness series, today we look at Matthew Friedberger, mastermind behind The Fiery Furnaces, a band he and his sister Eleanor comprise, most of the time. The Fiery Furnaces put out music at an incredibly frantic pace, and much of it is absolutely fantastic. Best of all, the one time I saw them live, they reworked every single song, stripping even some of the esoteric, longer songs into straight ahead rock and roll. Here’s a homemade video for the song “My Dog Was Lost But Now He’s Found.” It’s a really well-done video for a very clever song. I’d watch all the way through to really get how clever it is.
That was off of Blueberry Boat, a very solid record. Here’s a nice little ditty called “Tropical Iceland.” Like I said, the band’s output is more than impressive, so I don’t even know on which album this song is. But it’s a fun one. And an interesting video.
Always great lyrics. I’m relatively sure that Matthew writes the songs, with his amazing vegetarian powers. This next video is really cool; it’s Matthew and Eleanor doing a song called “Japanese Slippers.” Just them and two guitars.
So there are a few songs from The Fiery Furnaces. I would suggest, instead of trying to get a feel for them just from this post, you check out Bitter Tea, a really great album of theirs that’s pretty accessible, as far as they go. And be sure to takepart to get your free vegetarian starter kit.
Like I said, I’m winding down the Sunday awesome vegetarian posts, as I’m running out of them. So, maybe if I get really clever, I’ll figure out something to replace it. That, or just start choosing musicians that aren’t vegetarians. I’m sure you wouldn’t mind, no?
