Last night I saw the 2007 film Bordertown starring Jennifer Lopez as Lauren Fredricks, a newspaper reporter, who has been sent to Juarez by her editor to investigate what has happened to these hundreds of women and how the local police and authorities have been covering up the brutal rapes and murders. Watch the trailer below:
The movie was so disturbing and infuriating. It was one of those films that left me feeling so disappointed in humanity. According to comprehensive analysis by Amnesty International, approximately 400 young women have been murdered or abducted in the cities of Juárez and Chihuahua, Mexico since 1993. In Guatemala, over 2,500 women and girls have been murdered since 2001. I really encourage everyone to see this film.
