My Oscar Wishes : Who I Want to Win Posted by Gina Telaroli on February 20, 2009 at 11:50 am

So, in a much different spirit than my actual Oscar Predictions, comes my list of Oscar Wishes.  Basically I am rooting for things that obviously won’t win and Milk (which might be able to win some stuff!) It should be pretty obvious that these are wishes simply from the fact that I shut-out awards favorite Slumdog Millionaire.  But honestly, that film is ridiculously overrated.

Give a look to who I will be rooting for on Sunday night, let me know if you disagree and be sure to takepart and catch up with our 81 for 81 Oscar series that highlights 81 films that pushed the envelope in terms of content and social change!

______

Best Actor in a Leading Role : Sean Penn - Milk.
This may be one of the only categories where my wish matches my prediction.

______

Best Actress in a Leading Role : Anne Hathaway - Rachel Getting Married

I can’t support The Reader due to Harvey Weinstein - my sworn enemy - so even though Kate was better I’m rooting for Anne and the far superior Rachel Getting Married.

______

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Michael Shannon - Revolutionary Road

Don’t shoot me but I honestly think this performance was one of the best all year.  He did so much with so little.

______

Best Actress in a Supporting Role : Penelope Cruz - Vicky Cristina Barcelona

She was hilarious and made me happy Woody Allen is still making films.

______

Best Animated Feature - Wall-E
I’ll say it again, if Wall-E doesn’t win I may turn off my television.

______

Best Director: Gus Van Sant - Milk

Love him. Love him sooooo much.

______

Best Screenplay (Original) : Happy-Go-Lucky
Loved it, love him. Also, it is Mike Leigh’s birthday today!

______

Best Screenplay (adapted): Doubt

It is a movie about words and dialogue. It really should win regardless if you liked the film.

______

Best Documentary Feature: Encounters at the End of the World

I love you Werner!

______

Best Foreign Language Film : The Class

I haven’t seen this yet - but it is French, I’ve heard good things from trusted sources and I like Laurent Cantet.

______

and finally Best Picture (do I have to choose something?) : Milk

It did make me cry and anything that will help Gus Van Sant make more of his art films is supported by me!

Call me silly, but I wish Wall-E was up for and would win Best Picture. I enjoyed it more than all the movies nominated, and it is so incredibly appropriate for our times.
