Obama Says Canada’s Tar Sands Oil Creates a ‘Big Carbon Footprint’: ITOTD Posted by Danny Jensen on February 18, 2009 at 2:58 pm

President Obama declared today that Canada’s tar sands oil industry creates a ‘big carbon footprint’ and plans to help find clean energy solutions for the U.S. and Canada.  Apparently Obama noticed the personal ad addressed to him by the environmental group Forest Ethics, prior to his trip to Calgary tomorrow.  (But he apparently won’t be seeing Greenpeace’s welcome banner). According to the CBC, Obama encouraged the cooperation of the U.S., Canada and other countries to find green alternatives:

We’re not going to be able to deal with any of these issues in isolation. The more that we can develop technologies that tap alternative sources of energy but also contain the environmental damage of fossil fuels, the better off we’re going to be.

While many people would like to see a complete elimination of fossil fuel sources, myself included, I think Obama has to address the issue practically so as not to shut down dialogue.  100% clean energy should be the ultimate goal, however, to make the transition viable some focus should definitely going towards cleaning up existing energy sources.

Stick it to us, Obama, when you meet Harper tomorrow. Tell Harper hemp would make a cleaner fuel and it grows beautifully in Alberta!
Down with our dirty oil!
Up with GREEN energy!
