Tomorrow is a celebration of love! Although the holiday originally had religious roots, its presence has spread far and wide, to the candy shelves of drug stores, the jewelry counters at department stores and the special items section of restaurants. While it’s generally perceived to be a day for couples to demonstrate their love for each other, it shouldn’t be exclusively for them. In fact, it really should be a day to spread the love amongst all. Open your heart to show friend, family and even strangers your generosity and open heart.
One group that could greatly benefit from some anonymously sent love is homeless teens. High school is already tough (especially on V.Day!). Just imagine this difficult age being further compounded by being homeless. Covenant House is a national organization which offers housing and programming to at-risk and homeless teens and you can help support their efforts on February 14th.
Here’s some simple tips you can take to support Covenant House and bring some joy to a homeless teenager on Valentines Day:
-Give much needed items such as toiletries, sneakers, professional clothes and blankets. Also, consider donating school supplies, gift cards, postage, or bus cards.
-Make a donation which will be matched during their Million Dollar Matching Gift Challenge.
-Join their Facebook group
-Remember Covenant House every day of the year! There are plenty of ways for you to provide much-needed support.
