Two benefit albums in one day, both to be released next week?! Crazy, I know, but true. Dark Was The Night, the latest music compilation from the Red Hot Organization, is aimed at raising money and awareness of HIV and AIDS, and promises to be amazing. The album features some of my favorite musicians, many of whom are on heavy rotation on my playlists, including: Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, Beirut, The Books, Cat Power, David Byrne, Iron & Wine, My Morning Jacket, The National, The New Pornographers, Spoon, Yo La Tango, well, you get the idea: phenomenal (See the full list here).
You may be familiar with Red Hot from some of their other benefit compilitions, including another favorite of mine: No Alternative. Since 1989 the Red Hot Organization has raised over $7 million for AIDS relief around the world. Check out this awesome widget that you can customize with songs from the album:
