This morning I was brought to tears when a homeless woman asked President Obama to help her and her son during today’s town hall meeting in Fort Myers, Florida. It was an upsetting reminder that while the country sorts through the details of the economic stimulus plan, there are many people whose most basic needs continue to go unheard. If you missed it, here is Henrietta Hughes’ plea:
After the meeting Henrietta was offered a home by Chene Thompson, wife of State Representative Nick Thompson. And while I am happy she was able to receive such immediate assistance, there are many more homeless people who need help, too. Fortunately, many homeless and affordable housing organizations are enthusiastic about Obama’s choice of Shaun Donovan to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

I `m homeless too and i live in cal. but i`m not alone ! 200,000 veterans are HOMELESS in our country ! Millions more Americans are going to be HOMELESS because G. Bush, B. Clinton and the first G. Bush refused to enforce our immigration laws and people like Obama`s aunt and
and millions other illegal aliens have been allowed to live in government housing while we the taxpayers foot the bill! President Obama has a piece of legislation on his desk G. Bush
left for him to sign called E-VERIFY. He and Janet N. have decided to wait on enforcing our laws
I guess he really doesn`t care about homeless vets. or americans unless they stand in front of him pleading for HELP ! ( WHAT A GUY !) HEAR MY PLEA!!! Enforce our laws !!!
SIGN E-VERIFY!!! WRITE an executive ORDER making it manditory for all gov. programs
and jobs as well as 287g nationwide!!! To learn more about E-VERIFY and 287g visit
numbersusa.com then visit americanpatrol.com & outragedpatriots.com!!!
1 of 200,000 under bridges in bushes or if lucky in a car SIGN E-VERIFY– MR. O.

God richly bless our new President Obama who cares for people in need, it takes one to know one. and when one comes from a simular background knows what its like to be poor one can relate to homelessness. Never in history has a US President ever reached out to help those in need like President Obama I respect this man like no other.
America has real a president. Imagine, the most powerful person on earth walk down the isle and kiss a homeless person. OBAMA is part of the community, his mom once for a very short period of time lived on food stamps. He understand how the people are hurting. That is why he’s fighting for the stimulus plan. Those who led us into this mess, the GOP, are still in denying…. They don’t want people to be helped by gov’t money but they were cheerleaders for unnecessary wars.
Pres. OBAMA may God bless you. America finally get a president, who has ear for both the haves and for the have not.
When is he coming to California? We have thousands of homeless families living in their cars just like Henrietta. Instead of his illegal alien aunt living in Sec 8 housing it should have been Henrietta. Like david o. said, Mandate E-Verify for all employment and govt. programs. Enforce our laws!!
are u kidding me!! how convenient, sitting in the front row, well dressed, cameras around.
how is this lady going to afford the utilities oh yes tax payer expense. if this goes through, their should be mandatory march of every single homeless person in the us marching to the white house and camping out on the street demanding a home. but u see most americans are not like this, they feel bad enough about their situation let alone make a spectacle of it.
but all u that voted for him just voted in the next step into the growing welfare state. dont work the government will tend to your every need, til u are not needed any more. so get ready for the tax hike like never before. somebody has to pay for it.
This move was by far the most egomanical show of false hope I have ever seen by a president. Is homelessness new? Obama is gonna publically show the entire US “Hey, make your way to me directly and I will give you a home, food and a job interview”? I will tell you one thing, if this Henrietta was a scruffy dirty white woman with a kid there would have been no such fortunre fo her. This was a publicity stunt plain and simple. Did you notice how clean and nicley dressed she was? I am almost doubting her homelessness. What did anyone gain from this? I gained more money out of my pocket to feed, hose, and take care of her that is what I have earned, Thanks, Obama. Proving everyday why I didn’t vote for you.
I am a mother of three, one of my children deceased. I am currently living alone, seperated from my husband and my two children due to a medical condition I did have and am currently taking medication for. In June of 2008 I had a Grand Mal Seizure. I was transported to the hospital. I have since had three others. I am on medication now and am doing well. I unfortunatley was not able to go back to work at that time and was considered self deployed of my job. I am currently seeking employment, but have had not had any luck in finding such. I am three months behind on my rent. I have searched on the internet, registerd with NH unemployment, and every agency to find employment. I have also searched every agency to get help in regards to my rent and all other essential needs…(electricity, phone). There seems to be no help out there. Could you please help me in regards to this matter. I will not be able to get my daughter’s back if I can not provide a home for them or myself. I thank you for your time and review of my current situation.
Sincerely,
Stephanie LeBlanc

There are lots of people that are homeless. My husband was laid off in the summer time, and we have two young girls (3, and 1) and we are currently homeless… would he help a young couple get a home to spend christmas?
just a question to david o. I understand the struggle you are going through right now. I was homeless at one point too, and im only 15. But i am well to do now. But if you are homeless, how did you write on this page?
