In a move right out of the Bush Administration’s playbook, Sammy Wilson, the environment minister for Northern Ireland has announced a ban on climate change ads from the London-based ActOnCo2 campaign. How do people like this get elected or appointed to positions that should be devoted to protecting the environment, when they themselves seem to believe the environment doesn’t need any help? Mr. Wilson doesn’t believe we have anything to do with climate change, and thinks that any green efforts are scams.  On Sammy’s website you can read more gems like this one:
If sea levels are rising then resources should be directed towards improving flood defences not taxing people more for driving their cars.
Great plan, let’s just let the chips fall where they may and deal with the mess later. Mr. Wilson also seems to be confused by the term “global warming” and believes any sign of cooling temperatures means that we haven’t altered climate patterns by releasing greenhouse gases. Here is one of the ads that Mr. Wilson is so ridiculously opposed to:
Hopefully Mr. Wilson calms down or better yet, steps down. We need leaders willing to face the problems of global climate change and address our contribution head-on.
