Celebrating Bob Marley’s birthday probably involves more than lighting just candles for many people, but however you choose to remember Bob, keep in mind his messages of peace, love and justice. Widely credited with bringing reggae music into the international spotlight, his words and music continue to inspire people around the planet. For proof check out this newly released video tribute to Bob from Playing For Change, a multimedia movement aimed at bringing peace to the world through music:
takepart by getting involved with the Playing For Change Foundation, which brings music education to communities in need around the world. Playing for Change also collaborates with (RED)WIRE working to eliminate AIDS in Africa.
You could also takepart in celebrating Bob’s birthday by getting involved with NORML’s efforts to reform marijuana laws. And since Bob died from Melanoma in 1981, you could takepart with the Melanoma Research Foundation. So, there you go, plenty of ways to get involved.
And after the jump enjoy Bob’s final performance of one of my favorites, Redemption Song. And Gilberto Gil’s cover of Three Little Birds, another Marley favorite of mine.
