Looking for an alternative to watching the Super Bowl this Sunday? Well if you’re not that into football, unsexy commercials, terrible towels or Bacon Explosions, then here are five fun activities to pass the day:
1. Catch Up on Oscar Nominated Films
Head out to the movie theater(there will be plenty of seats) and catch up all the movies nominated for an Oscar that you haven’t seen yet. You could also rent some from this year like, oh I don’t know, The Visitor. Or even rent Oscar winners from years past, and choose from the list of 81 Films that Pushed the Envelope.
Chili has long been a Super Bowl favorite, but who needs to watch football to enjoy a blazin’ hot bowl of beans? Invite friends over to compete for the title of best chili recipe, and if you really get a crowd together you could even have the event sanctioned by the International Chili Society and raise money for charity.
3. Volunteer In Your Community
There are plenty of people who won’t be watching the game this weekend that could use a helping hand. By using Volunteer Match you can find places in your area where you help would be greatly appreciated.
4. Plant An Indoor Herb Garden
Sure, it might be chilly where you live, but herbs are hardy, easy-to-grow and will add fresh flavor to your winter meals. What better way to encourage the Obama’s to start a White House garden than by getting your hands dirty in your own backyard.
Not crazy about dudes playing football? How about dogs? Take Giulia’s advice and check out Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl. Maybe it’s time to adopt a puppy and host your own Puppy Bowl. Just watch out for your puppy’s halftime special.
And if you’ve really had it with watching television of any kind, takepart by finding out where you can recycle your t.v.
