Top 5 Alternative Super Bowl Snacks Posted by Gina Telaroli on January 29, 2009 at 4:22 pm

Planning on vegging out this Sunday night with football and food? If so, try one of these snack alternatives on for size.

*also on a side note, as a girl who spent the majority of  life in Cleveland, I am giving my Super Bowl support to the Cardinals as I can no way endorse the success of the Steelers.

1) Fair Trade chocolate : I know M&Ms are the big Super Bowl snack, but this year why not try some fair trade chocolate - it will taste just as good and comes sans any consumer guilt! takepart to find some fair trade chocolate near you!

2) Guacamole w/homemade chips : Everyone loves to dip chips during the super bowl - so why not make a healthy dip out of fresh avocados, tomatoes, onions etc.. and fry up your own chips. You can use organic corn tortillas and GMO free oils to make sure you’re being as healthy as possible.  Lord knows the chips you get at the store are probably GMO in everyway possible.

3) Soy Dogs : Instead of having hot dogs dressed up in fatty things, dress up soy dogs.  They’ll taste just as good smothered in cheese, ketchup and what have you, but are loads better for you to begin with.

4) Apples and Peanut Butter : If you want something sweet that is actually good for you, try this classic.  It is gooey, sweet and soooo yummy.

5) Trail Mix : If you like muching, try a combination of nuts and dried fruits.   Its a great combination of salty and sweet!
