Sarah’s Social Action Snapshot: Meat Production Methods Posted by Sarah Newman on January 27, 2009 at 6:47 pm

butcherAs a vegetarian for about 25 years, it’s a bit ironic that I’m writing a blog post about a handy guide that teaches confused consumers about different meat production methods.  And, while I’d love the world to be consuming a strict vegetarian diet, my dream hasn’t become reality yet.  As such, there’s a myriad of ways that meat can be produced. I don’t get as confused when I’m perusing the tofu aisle as I imagine happens in the beef lane with the various catch-phrases and logos to confuse and lure consumers in.  If you are eating meat, it’s best to choose those that are the most sustainble options, such as pasture-raised, without anti-biotics and no added hormones. The process has been made a lot simpler with Sustainable Table’s new “Glossary of Meat Production Methods” that is a downloadable, handy wallet-size guide that you can take with you to the butcher shop.  So, if you need to buy meat, choose the most sustainable and humanely-raised option possible.  And, if you’ve been toying with the idea of going vegetarian, drop me a line because I can give you a few tips.
