Penguins Threatened By Melting Sea Ice: ITOTD

The Emperor Penguins of Antarctica could find themselves extinct by the end of this century if sea ice continues to melt as a result of climate change, according to a study released yesterday. As if they didn’t have a hard enough time living in the coldest place on earth. Researchers from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts utilized climate models to predict how warming temperatures would effect the world’s largest penguins, finding that up to 95% of the population could be decimated by century’s end. And to remind you of how important it is to protect this beautiful species, here is their Oscar winning performance in March of the Penguins:
