Coffee Linked to Lowered Dementia Risk, Literally Making It the Greatest Thing Ever Posted by Andy Kondrat on January 27, 2009 at 1:19 pm

In what could potentially be the most exciting news I have heard in my life, ever, a study from Scandinavia has found that drinking coffee has been linked to lowered risk of dementia. I know, right? Unbelievable and wonderful. Read this excerpt from the New York Times and then rejoice with me:

…scientists found that the subjects who had reported drinking three to five cups of coffee daily were 65 percent less likely to have developed dementia, compared with those who drank two cups or less. People who drank more than five cups a day also were at reduced risk of dementia, the researchers said, but there were not enough people in this group to draw statistically significant conclusions.

I believe what they’re implying is, we all need to drink more than five cups of coffee a day to validate the findings. For people like me, who might not exist if coffee were not available, this is a terrific excuse to up the dosage. Maybe I won’t go back to my early-2006 levels of about 12-15 cups of coffee a day, but I certainly won’t stop myself from having that extra espresso or three before I leave the house.

takepart and learn about Fair Trade coffee, because if we’re all going to start drinking 74 cups of coffee a day, we might as well do so responsibly.
