Sigh. So the inauguration is over and the world moves on.  Beyond Obama Obama Obama one thing making its way around the internet today is different people’s Oscar nomination predictions.  While there is lots of buzz over Slumdog and even more speculation over who might sneak into the best picture category, I’m pretty sure there won’t be too many surprises on Thursday morning. We shall see though.
Below are some of my way out there dreams for a few of the categories. Check back on Thursday morning for live-blogging of the nominations:
Best Picture : Wall-E
I do have an entire top 10 list of movies I would rather see nominated than what I imagine the actual nominees will be, but the only one that is even a little realistic is Wall-E and nothing would make me happier than to see the film get a nod for the award of the night.

______
Best Actress : Michelle Williams for Wendy and Lucy
The restraint Miss Williams shows in her performance makes Wendy and Lucy all the more powerful. There is little chance she will be nominated but oh does she deserve it (so much more than Angelina her turn in Changeling)

______
Best Actor : Benicio Del Toro for Che
Why this is a long shot it beyond me. Che is selling out theaters, it is critically acclaimed and Mr. Del Toro is amazing - he commands all 5 and 1/2 hours of Che.

Best Supporting Actress : Samantha Morton for Synecdoche, NY
Samantha Morton probably should have been nominated for this award numerous times throughout the years and even though she is just as deserving this year for her work in Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, NY she probably won’t be. Maybe if Kate Winslet had played her playing her role in the film…?

Best Supporting Actor : Michael Shannon for Revolutionary Road
While his co-stars will most likely be nominated I would love to see Mr. Shannon get a nod for his turn in Sam Mendes’s melodrama about suburban strife. That or any of the Milk boys. Here’s hoping.
______
And in honor of my best picture hopeful, takepart to help our planet survive!
