Pakistan began mobilizing thousands of troops toward the Indian border today. The military forces are being taken from the Northwestern tribal regions of the South Asian country amid rapidly escalating tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks last month. According to intelligence sources as many as 20,000 soldiers are being relocated to what is, once again, becoming one of the most dangerous borders on the planet.
Meanwhile in India President Manmohan Singh met today with top Indian military officials to discuss what was described as the regional security situation. India and Pakistan have already fought 3 wars since gaining their independence from the United Kingdom in 1947. In recent years terror attacks in India have been repeatedly blamed on Pakistan or groups operating within Pakistan which India claims, with some reason, have deep ties to the more radical elements within Pakistan’s ISS intelligence services apparatus.
Given that both Indian and Pakistan possess nuclear weapons, maintaining peace in the troubled region is of the utmost importance. You can takepart by contacting both the Indian and Pakistani Embassies and urging them to find a peaceful solution to this conflict.
