Post Christmas dinner I did a lot of channel surfing. Currently I do not have cable in my NYC apartment so my parents remote and recliner, were the best holiday present I could have asked for yesterday.
Between watching “The Real Housewives of Orange County” (I couldn’t help it, I was fascinated with how snooty Vicki is) and TBS’s “A Christmas Story” marathon (love that movie, but can’t love it 20 times in a row. I capped off at 2), I stumbled upon “CNN’s Heroes All -Star Tribute” (which originally aired Thanksgiving week) which honored the top 10 CNN Heroes of 2008.
On the CNN special I saw the story of Anne Mahlum, Founder and President, of Back on My Feet a non-profit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of Philadelphia’s homeless population by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. Back on My Feet does not provide food nor does it provide shelter, but instead provides a community that embraces equality, respect, discipline, teamwork and leadership. What a beautiful idea! Empowering people, helps those people change and achieve. I love Anne’s project.
