So, last we checked in, Gina had written that PETA and the Humane Society weren’t happy with Joe Biden, who I had previously reported had gone to a breeder to get a puppy instead of an animal shelter. Well, it looks like Biden has listened to the criticism and had decided to get another dog - this time from a shelter. From an interview with ABC news (via ecorazzi):
‘We’re gonna get a pound dog that my wife wants,’ Biden said. He told ABC the new puppy will likely be a golden retriever — and that he’s not just adopting from a pound just to silence critics…Biden [said] that his family is no stranger to pound pets. ‘We already have a pound cat — we’ve had pound animals in our house,’ he says.
As Gina had noted in her post, Biden has always been a friend to animal rights people, so it’s good to see that he’s taking steps to help smooth over the relationship. As well, if Obama gets the family dog from a shelter, we’ll have a couple pretty solid role models in the executive branch to lead the way for animal adoption.
If you’ve already become inspired to adopt a pet of your own, takepart and find your nearest animal shelter.
