New York Magazine reported that volunteer rates are on the up in New York City. For example, New York Cares (a clearinghouse matching volunteers with community projects) has all of its 1,000-plus projects fully staffed through the end of the year, with attendance rates at 94 percent, versus 89 percent a year ago.
Why such a rise in volunteering? Many think it’s the activists energized by the Obama campaign, who were so inspired by grassroots organizing they now need new ways to continuing contributing to their community.
If you live in the New York area takepart and volunteer through NY Cares at http://www.nycares.org/.
And if you live outside of NYCtakepart and check outhttp://www.volunteermatch.org/ for volunteer opportunities in your city.
