Sam Bottoms passed away on Tuesday of glioblastoma multiforme, a virulent brain cancer,  he was 53 years old.  The actor brother of Timothy, Joesph and Ben made his screen debut in Peter Bogdanovich’s The Last Picture Show at age 15 (along with his brother Timothy) and more recently he appeared in SherryBaby and Shopgirl. My favorite Sam Bottoms role has to be his portrayal of surfer GI Lance Johnson in Apocalypse Now.
