The Minneapolis Star Tribune has projected Al Franken to win the grueling recount of the Minnesota Senate race over GOP incumbent Norm Coleman. The current totals from the newspaper put the comedian and former Saturday Night Live writer and performer ahead of Coleman by a mere 89 votes.

The machinations of this recount race seem even more confusing than those of the infamous 2000 Florida Presidential recount, so we don’t need to go into all that right now. What we do need to do is knock on wood several times in the hopes of not jinxing the chance at the Democrats controlling 59 seats in the United States Senate should Franken indeed claim victory. Personally, I still can’t believe Al Franken even ran for Senate. I’ve enjoyed the man’s comedy in the past, but even I would have to think twice before pulling the lever to make Stuart Smalley my voice in the Senate. Although looking at the alternative and his party’s policy positions would probably make the decision considerably easier.
