The Awkward Kings of Comedy

I am so impressed with my friend Victor Varnado (The Adventures of Pluto Nash, Late Night with Conan O’Brien) and his film “The Awkward Kings of Comedy.” This new stand-up performance documentary spotlights alternative African-American comics proving that not all “black” comedy fits a stereotypical mold. In addition to showcasing a group of fabulous stand-ups (Victor plus fellow awkward comedians Hannibal Buress, Eric André, Baron Vaughn, with Marina Franklin serving as the interviewer) the film offers an off-stage look, behind the scenes footage and interviews, blended with personal vignettes illustrated by underground comic book artists.
