Well now that you know how to recycle your Christmas tree, how about making the holiday even greener by buying an organic tree? While some of you may have run out after Thanksgiving to pick up your tree, if still waiting for the adventure, I recommend keeping pesticides out of your house this holiday season. And while the use of pesticides on tree farms has been greatly reduced over the years, and some people argue most of the residues don’t linger, I say, if you can avoid trimming a tree that is covered in more organophosphates than tinsel, go for it! Your family will breath easier and the forest and all it’s inhabitants will thank you for eliminating the risks of pesticide runoff.
While you aren’t likely to find organic trees at big box stores or massive lots, with a little investigating you can find independent sellers, who harvest trees locally and tell you exactly how their trees are grown. And why not plant a tree to offset your chopped fir? Or decorate a living tree (preferably one on your property)?
takepart to green your holiday by finding an organic christmas tree supplier near you.
