Support from the NRDC has helped land a tremendous victory for the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, protecting the area from Shell’s plans to drill for oil. A federal appeals court has ruled that the Bush Administration’s approval of the plan to drill in the Beaufort Sea was illegal. The NRDC reports:
NRDC and Earthjustice — along with a coalition of Alaska Native organizations and conservation groups — went to federal court and proved that Shell’s rush to industrialize this fragile ecosystem posed a greater threat to wildlife and the Inupiat people than the Bush Administration was willing to admit.
Well this battle to protect the Arctic refuge has been won, it’s certainly no time to rest easy, as big oil and it’s supporters will surely continue to find ways to drill.
takepart to insist that the Bush Administration prevent drilling in the Dixie National Forest.

Great action item on Dixie National Forest… Dixie is an impressive expanse tying together important and beautiful public lands like Bryce Canyon, Zion, and Grand Canyon National Parks.
Thanks Josh! I love those parks, and hope we can keep them pristine.
