The Spirit Award nominations, the indie alternative to the Oscars, came out today and there were a lot movies to be excited about!
Participant’s own The Visitor received 3 nominations (Best Direction, Best Male Lead and Best Supporting Male) which is super exciting! And one of my NYFF favorites, Wendy and Lucy, also received a bunch of nods (Best Feature and Best Female Lead).
Other noms that had me smiling included Hunger and Silent Light for Best Foreign Film, Lol Crowley for Best Cinematography for Ballast and Encounters at the End of the World for Best Documentary.  It’s nice to see some of these films (esp Hunger and Silent Light) get more recognition - they definitely deserve it. So if they come to a theater near you anytime soon check them out. And also be sure to check out the complete nominees list.
And then takepart with the social action campaign for The Visitor and take the power of cinema into the real world!
