One of this weeks Entertainment news stories was about how in January’s Vanity Fair, Tina Fey’s husband Jeff Richmond tells readers that a stranger slashed Fey’s face when she was a kid. The attack occurred in the front yard of her house in Upper Darby, Pa. when Fey was five years old. I don’t really see how this personal information is that news worthy, I mean it’s interesting, but not news. (Then again we are a society that was obsessed with seeing if Paris, Brittney and Lindsay were wearing panties. Oh pop culture, how I love/hate you so). Fey rarely discusses the incident saying “it’s impossible to talk about it without somehow seemingly exploiting it and glorifying it.” I love Tina Fey and I see her point, sometimes we want our past trauma to just stay in the past. However, it’s inspiring to see someone who has experienced trauma be able to successfully move forward from it rather than letting that past trauma hold them back.
