I saw Jim Gaffigan live this past weekend at his NYC performance of “The Sexy Tour” and it was awesome. If you’ve never seen or heard Gaffigan, you’re missing out. Here’s just a sampling of the magic this man makes:
I want to be Gaffigan when I grow up (minus the facial hair, I dunno, I just don’t think it’ll look as good on me). As a comic I am inspired by and in awe of Gaffigan. His ability to take something like Hot Pockets and talk about it in such depth, with such hilarity for so long, is just amazing to me. I literally laughed from start to finish of his performance Sunday night as he made topics such as bacon, bowling, and beds funnier than I could ever have imagined. His flow is seamless and his delivery is unmatched.
The other thing I find so inspiring is that he’s been working at his craft for almost twenty years and it wasn’t until about ten years ago that he got real notoriety. It’s easy to get impatient when you are an artist. Following your dreams can be so scary, so it’s nice to see someone I admire follow their dreams, work hard, and succeed.
Jim Gaffigan still has a few more shows scheduled this month in cities across the US. Check out jimgaffigan.com for dates and tickets, and while you’re there watch more of his clips. Trust me, they’ll make you laugh all day long.
And I had the honor of performing with Gaffigan last year at a benefit for Stockings with Care, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making sure that families in need have everything they need to create the magic of Christmas morning for their kids. Last year, Stockings with Care played Santa to over 2000 NYC area kids. takepart and check out stockingswithcare.com for ways to get involved.
