Hannity and Colmes seen from the street in their Manhattan studio.
Word came down this week from the ivory tower of Fox News that television co-hosts Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes will be parting ways. The pair which have anchored the Fox’s political opinion talk program “Hannity & Colmes” will be no more after Alan Colmes, the “liberal” half of the show, announced plans to leave this week. Sean Hannity, the more well known, conservative half of the program, will stay on and plans are reportedly in the works to find a replacement for his departing colleague.
Colmes said of the planned departure, “We have a Democratic House, Senate and president. My work here is done.” Uhhhhh, yeah right. Anyone who has watched this show knows it is cruel parody of the “fair and balanced” coverage Fox claims to provide. Hannity plays the Alpha Male, bloviating on Republican talking point after talking point, in concert with other right wing commentators across the television and radio dials, who all mysteriously seem to always say the same things, with the same sources, on the same days. Meanwhile Colmes plays - ummm, how to put this delicately - a bumbling, Beta male “liberal”, who knows his place as a nearly unnecessary sidekickand never upstages his conservative colleague, and whose very physical presence serves as a stark contrast from that of his co-host. I don’t think finding a replacement is going to be too hard.
