Sarah’s Social Action Snapshot: Ban Endosulfan Posted by Sarah Newman on November 19, 2008 at 6:02 pm

Don’t you hate it when the tomatoes you eat are sprayed with endosulfan, a pesticide linked to autism? I personally don’t want to ingest this chemical and neither do many of you. In fact, 25,000 people nationwide joined together to sign a petition submitted to the EPA calling for the dangerous chemical to be removed from our food supply. The effort was spearheaded by the Pesticide Action Network, the United Farm Workers and Earthjustice, organizations we’re working closely with as part of the Social Action campaign for our upcoming documentary, Food, Inc.

Endosulfan is banned in the European Union and 20 other countries but is widely available and used in our country.  Their campaign is not only to ban it in the United States but to have it banned globally.  takepart today to sign the petition and receive updates. Here’s to safe tomatoes!

Dear Sarah,

It is strange that there are many many more natural pesticides than our synthetic pesticides that we use. The pecentage of residue of synthetic pesticide is very very low than the naturally occuring pesticide.

Do you know that potatoes that we eat in our normal day to day contain two highly dangerous neurotoxic substance solanine and chaconine which are fat soluble. Above an all it contains high amount of glycoalkaloids which can create reproductive abnormalities, which is proven in rats.

Not only that name tomatoes, cofee, tea, corn, olives etc contain large amount of natural peticides. Well these are all scientific facts. To refer this you only need to read pesticide residue in food and cancer risk : A critical Analysis by Dr. Gold and Dr. Ames.

Endosulfan has been proved by scientific studies and WHO that it is moderately hazardous and it is not linked with any human health hazard. These has been proved by authentic scientific research like International Agency for Cancer Research.

Let us be judicious and save a great molecule by emancipating greater and judicious use of the said.
