Pay That Penny, Or Else.

Well this is just silly. Eileen Wilbur, a 74-year-old blind Massachusetts woman got a letter from the city saying a lien and would be placed on her home and she’d be charged a $48 penalty unless she paid her overdue water bill. Wilbur owed one cent. That’s right, a penny.
City Collector Debora Marcoccio said the letter was automatically computer generated for overdue accounts and are not reviewed by staff before being sent.
Did the state of MA not realize it cost them forty-two cents to mail that letter?
