Even though I rarely agree with Mike Huckabee, I’ve always found him to be rational and less hypocritical in his beliefs than most Republican candidates. I find this excerpt where he discusses gay marriage from his appearance on The View to be a bit of stretch though and somewhat troubling:
To say that violence hasn’t been committed against gay people is kind of outrageous but what do you think about this point that gay marriage has nothing to do with individual rights and instead is a redefinition of an institution?Â
I think he’s grasping at straws. Even if the issue does come to redefining an institution, that definition as it stands limits gay people’s individual rights. So it’s really the same thing. Plus, I still don’t understand why “the institution” is more important than letting people be happy? Than letting people create families and environments of love. Nobody is asking chruches to change their beliefs, they’re only asking the government to recognize their rights and their relationships.
