The Iraqi Cabinet approved a security pact today setting the terms for withdrawal of US forces from the country. The agreement sets the deadline for withdrawal of American armed forces from Iraqi towns and cities by June 30, 2009. The deadline for the complete exit of the US military from the entire nation is set for December 31, 2011.
According to Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh the dates are “set and fixed” and “not subject to the circumstances on the ground”.
The approval by the Iraqi Cabinet of the security pact agreement with the United States will now be sent for a vote to the full Iraqi Parliament where the chances are high that it will pass, setting in place what is hopefully the final timeline on the deployment of American forces in the region.
