Don’t Worry About the Bradley Effect. Worry About Voter Fraud: Sarah’s Social Action Snapshot Posted by Sarah Newman on November 3, 2008 at 3:17 pm

The media continues to report about a potential Bradley effect (named after Los Angeles’ former mayor Tom Bradley who was ahead in the polls but lost the election. Pundits attribute it to white voters being afraid of publicly admitting their fear of voting for a black person, hence the difference between the polls and the outcome).  However, during this extremely long election, every state has already had a primary which has allowed millions of voters of all races to support Barack Obama. There was no Bradley effect in the primaries so why is the mainstream media hyping up this story?

The real concern for voters should be election fraud and problems at the polls. Evidence of voting problems already are rampant. Oprah already experienced problems at her voting booth. If there’s one person who shouldn’t experience voting problems, it’s the most powerful media woman in America.  There’s already video documentation of voting flipping in West Virginia and Texas, Missouri and Tennessee from Obama to McCain or Green Party candidate Cynthia McKinney.

Voting rights groups have already filed suit in Pennsylvania and Virginia arguing that not enough ballots have been prepared for the expected turn-out tomorrow and very long lines at already open Democratic precincts.

According to Mark Crispin Miller, author of Loser Take All: Election Fraud and the Subversion of Democracy, says that one way to help to prevent election fraud tomorrow is to have a high turnout. “The larger the turnout, the harder the theft.”

Documentation of election fraud is critical to ensuring that all cases are investigated and to provide statistics to mainstream media who might otherwise treat the election results as valid. As I’ve already mentioned several times before, if you experience or witness any problems on election day, contact 1-866-OURVOTE or 866ourvote.org. Video the vote is another way to document election fraud.  Both of these organizations need volunteers-please check their websites for details and take action to protect our democracy.

If the outcome is questionable (which shouldn’t be hard for people to recognize after 2000 and 2004 elections), participate in or organize a Voter Assembly on November 5th to peacefully protest against the outcome.

As the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Tomorrow, help to protect all citizens’ right to vote and ensure our government remains democratically elected.

This issue of voter fraud, especially with the electronic machines needs massive media attention. Even if it does not affect the outcome it impinges on the basic democratic right of each citizen to vote for whomever they choose. Each person should be able to vote with out fear and with confidence in the country.

Having more democrats in office may ensure that we work will be done to fix this massive problem.

Rachel Maddow has it right. Waiting on line for ten hours to cast your ballot is nothing more than a poll tax.
