Amazon Announces Frustration-Free Packaging Posted by Danny Jensen on November 3, 2008 at 7:50 pm

Ever gone berserk over the impossible-to-open and excessive packaging of something you got in the mail?  Well, Amazon has come to the rescue with Frustration-Free Packaging, which is designed to reduce the stress level of opening packages, as well as the waste created from shipping. The company is working directly with manufacturers to eliminate all the excess plastic, cardboard, twist-ties and hassle, to send products in minimally packaged recyclable boxes.  Love it.

Check out a video demonstration of Frustration-Free Packaging here.

I have to admit, I have never ordered something from Amazon, and rarely from any other online stores, but this plan might just change my tune.  I like to keep my purchases local to support neighborhood businesses and to cut down on the miles my possessions have to travel.  And while I’ve never been fully convinced that online orders have a smaller carbon footprint, than going to the store (especially if you can walk, bike or use public transportation), I realize that certain items are difficult, if not impossible, to find locally.  Some things are destined to travel.  The other day I was sent a package from the Beyond section of a certain store, an item that was out of stock, and was shocked at the inappropriately large box and ludicrous amount of filler enclosed.  So, I applaud Amazon’s efforts and hope that other companies follow their lead.
