Top 10 Films For Halloween Fun and Fear Posted by Gina Telaroli on October 31, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Whether you need something low-key to do tonight or you need some cool down activities after a weekend of fun, this list of Halloween friendly cinema is sure to have something to please your celebrating self.  They’re not the most conventional Halloween films (those are all on TV as we speak) but they’re all guaranteed to creep you out, scare you and make you squirm.

Let me know if I missed your favorite and 3 cheers for Halloween and cinema!

10) Scarlet Street - A horror film for those who dream of being an artist of some kind.  Fritz Lang’s pessimism about love and art can scare anyone with idealism. Also, the last scene is perfect for Halloween!

______

9) Eyes of Laura Mars

This film features a mysterious killer, scary psychic thought and amazing fashion.  You won’t be sorry you gave this film a watch.

______

8 ) Gaslight - Two of my favorite movie stars from years past, Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman, find themselves in a house where they begin to question their sanity (or do they?).

______

7) Frailty - A story about family, religion and how far you are willing to go for both, Frailty promises to scare you, creep you out and surprise you at the end.

______

6) The Exorcist - I saw this movie when I was 7 at a sleepover. I didn’t quite understand it but I was raised Catholic and after I saw the film I was sure that the possessed girl lived under my bed.,  I actually had to sleep with all the lights on for about 6 months.  I still have problems watching the film to this day.  It’s scary….

______

5) Scanners

David Cronenberg is super perfect for Halloween. Any creepy, sexual, physical Cronenberg will do, but I recommend checking out one of his older horror films like Scanners!

______

4) Night of the Hunter - Gothic, religious and featuring one of the best villains ever, Night of the Hunter is a Halloween must see.  I might just go as Robert Mitchum’s preacher this year - although I’m in Ohio and I don’t think anyone will get it…

______

3) The Wicker Man - My awesome pal Daria’s favorite movie and beyond the strange/scary factor it is amazingly fun to watch and had great music!

______

2) Suspiria - It isn’t Halloween without Dario!

______

1) Psycho - My fav movie of all time. You haven’t really seen this unless you’ve seen it on the big screen.  Also, I’ve always kind of had a crush on Norman Bates - is that wrong?

______

Also worth watching : Eyes Without a Face, Nosferatu, Mulholland Dr.
