IBM Campaign to Reduce Carbon: Read the Writing on the Wall Posted by Danny Jensen on October 27, 2008 at 3:42 pm

To help companies reduce their carbon footprint and business costs, IBM has launched the Energy and Environment Framework, and is using “reverse graffiti”  to get the word out.   The company has released a series of videos in which an artist creates a mural by cleaning soot from a wall to reveal an eco-conscious message.   Check it out:
I’ve long been a fan of graffiti as public art, but since I’m not crazy about property damage or toxic fumes, I’ve often pondered the possibility of green graffiti.   And while guerrilla marketing usually makes me cringe, IBM’s Reduce Carbon Campaign is pretty rad and doesn’t feel like insidious advertising.   Soon after the videos were shot, they went back and cleaned the whole wall.   So, my green hat’s off to them.

While I’m not sure who the artist was for IBM’s campaign, this past summer there was some surprising controversy over Paul “Moose” Curtis and his Reverse Graffiti Project, which utilizes the “reverse” or “clean” graffiti technique around England.
