I was named after my great-grandmother, Sarah Gitlin, and was told by my parents they didn’t know of any other Sarah’s when I was born (a few decades ago). However, it seems like every other person I meet now is named Sarah which makes me feel like my name is boring and too normal. If I ever have kids, they will probably have the most unusual names that they will always resent. And, most recently, a certain Sarah from Alaska seems to have muddied my name. However, SP from Alaska has made me want to take ownership of my name and has made me proud to be a blue-state Sarah.
I guess some other cool Sarahs had the same idea and started the My Name is Sarah project to document Sarah’s nationwide who are supporting Obama. If you’re inclined to support the candidate of hope, change and a bold vision for our country’s future and you happen to have the beautiful name of Sarah (or Sara) then takepart and submit your video and comments here: MyNameIsSarah.net
