I don’t usually read more conservative/right-wing blogs, as I’m sure everyone here can tell from my Huffington Post and Keith Olbermann links, but the other day a righty blog linked to our site and I ended up skimming their site and others. One thing came up that I found disturbing but also interesting. Â A bunch of righty blogs are posting about a seafood snack that Michelle Obama apparently ordered at the Waldorf Astoria.
The problem comes in that the snack cost almost 500 dollars and featured lobster and “Iranian” caviar. Â They are all also posting the image of a receipt that Michelle Obama appears to have signed.
The story it seems first came to light on Page 6, although it is now taken down.  Why you ask? Go after the jump for the receipt image and the answer.
The problem with the receipt is that it is dated Wednesday October 15th around 4pm. Â Â And as it turns out on that date (albeit a bit earlier, but with not enough time to run to NY to order lobster) Michelle Obama was in Indiana making a speech.
And then the New York Post ran this today:
“THE source who told us last week about MichelleObama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.”
Nonetheless a whole of folks now think that Michelle Obama spent 500 dollars on fancy seafood, which given her and her husband’s recent thoughts on the economy seems hypocritical to a lot of folks.
Also, what this means is that people are willing to make fake receipts and call legitimate news sources and make up information to smear the Obamas. I mean to go so far as to say the caviar was IRANIAN caviar!! Really!? I mean really!!?? Page 6 is read by many many many people, democrats and republicans alike. Â And while it is a silly gossip section, that doesn’t mean that folks won’t believe it. Â Thankfully the retraction was printed, but still.
As far as I know, the lefty blogs haven’t made anything up, although they did speculate about who Trig Palin’s actual mother was - this was soon cleared up when the Palin’s announced that Brin was preggers. Â But even still.
I don’t know this kind of makes me sick. Even more that the thought of eating seafood (gross!!!)
Even more upsetting is that a lot of the sites posting the receipt are pro-Hillary sites. Something I just don’t get.
Alas, please please please takepart to fact check the election - it is extremely important.

The story is a hoax and has been retracted by the NY Post, where it originated. The “receipt” is such an instantly obvious photoshop (notice how the two signatures are *exactly* the same?) I’m surprised anyone took this story seriously.
If this is a hoax, why did Barack feel the need to get upset when he found out that someone in the hotel had leaked the story????? Some how, I believe the story to be true, and since it’s The Waldorf they had to retract the story so the staff didn’t get in trouble.
Jane,
Can you point me in the direction of where you read that Barack got upset?
I would imagine though that having someone give false information about your wife to a national publication is a pretty good reason to get upset. Also, Michelle Obama was in Indiana on the day in question.
I’d love to see Bradley’s source on Obama getting angry about it being leaked. That almost sounds like another lie being slapped on top of the current one.
And I can imagine someone being a little upset after finding out people are spreading false information about themselves or their family, especially when it is published in a major newspaper and has been picked up by other sources now. Looking at the blogosphere now I see lots of mentions of this and I am sure some people will read this an never hear about the retraction.
Jane, you ignorant…..
The “pro-Hillary” sites, for the most part, are thinly disguised racist and/or right-wing loony bins.
The simple matter of fact is that obviously over 50% of Americans want what our forefathers worked so hard to get away from. A government that has its hands in your pockets. Everyone wants to make money, but not everyone wants to WORK for it. They want a hand out. I have been in Coporate America. I have been around Small Business, and virtually EVERY employee of every company I worked with/for STOLE in some way , shape , or form. People are never satisfied and feel “Entitled” to more regardless if they are worth “more” or not. They will take what they can at company expense. Yes this crosses the line of both Lib and Conservs., but liberal thinking requires the thought process of “I AM ENTITLED, whether I earn it or not”. And truth be told, the ratio of Democrats vs. Republicans at the “employee” level is clearly largly Democrat.
Quite simply, there is no such thing as a hard-working (more than 40 hours a week) Democrat. It is a contradiction in terms. The Only people I know that work well over 40 hours a week ARE business owners, who will be punished under Obama.
Ron,
I beg to differ. Last year I was working a 40 hour a week job at a University simply so that I could have health insurance and also teaching 3 evenings a week at my old job at a community center in Queensbridge, the largest housing project development in the country. I was working about 50+ hours a week. This also doesn’t include my activist efforts or my filmmaking.
My mother teaches and tutors at a community college and puts in way over 40 hours a week when you factor in the time she spends on classroom prep.
Not to mention that most small businesses bring in under 250,000 dollars a year, meaning their taxes won’t go up under Obama’s plan.
