Powell Supports Obama (And I Am Confused By Politics) Posted by Giulia Rozzi on October 19, 2008 at 10:48 am

I’m watching CSPAN in my Bloomington IN hotel room (we had two awesome Obama Girls of Comedy shows last night at the Comedy Caravan) and they just reported that Former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced will be voting for Sen. Barack Obama. Powell notes Obama’s “ability to inspire” and the “inclusive nature” of his campaign.

Following the Powell report the political anchor takes calls from viewers, one being from a lady saying “you know Hilter was a good leader….Obama supporters are are being fooled, he’s trying to lead us to Socialism and Marxism”. The captivating anchor stared blankly into the screen as he pretended to scribble notes.

Then I changed the channel to watch crappy reality TV.

Truth is, I’m a little politics-ed out. (Maybe I shouldn’t say that considering I’m on a pro-Obama comedy tour.) Don’t get me wrong, I love freedom of speech. I love hearing people debate. I love that we have the right to discuss politics so openly. However, idiots who compare Obama to Hitler rattle me. The fact that I’m almost thirty and I am still utterly confused and intimidated by most political jargon upsets me (up until recently I thought Joe the Plumber was some guy my Italian father wanted to set me up on a date with). The fact that I know people who are not registered to vote, totally enrages me. The more political news I watch, the more election coverage I read, the more I am aware that I know less than I would like to (looks like someone should haven’t gone to Politics 101 hungover when they were in college). However one thing I do know for sure is I am very anxious for November 4th to come and for things to change…hopefully for the better.

Politics making your head spin? I know Wikipedia isn’t always the most reliable source of information but I like it’s simplicity. takepart and read up on political whatnot at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_the_United_States
