Alright, as I mentioned earlier I’ve been missing Brooklyn lately, and another reason is tomorrow’s Harvest Festival at the Added Value Farm in Red Hook. Â So, once again, I ask all of you New Yorkers to head down to the festival and let me live vicariously through your experience at this amazing urban farm. Â My college friend Caroline Loomis helps run this remarkable, formerly-concrete-now-verdant oasis, which teaches kids from the community to grow and sell their own produce. Â Beyond providing a much needed nutritional resource for the community, the Added Value programs provides lessons in self-sufficiency, sustainability and leadership. Â And their Harvest Festival is just plain fun! Â I had a blast last year (as you can see from my canning demonstration below), and this year sounds like an even bigger hoot with “Music/Performances, Kids’ Activities, Pumpkin Patch, Contests, Farm Animals, Info Booths, Vendors, Farm Tours, and more!”
takepart and head down to the Festival tomorrow or if you can’t donate to help support Added Value.
