Maryland Hotel Draws Fire Over McCain Sign Posted by Jon Popham on October 16, 2008 at 11:25 am

The Colony South Hotel & Conference Center in Clinton, Maryland, a suburb of Washington DC, has caused a stir by posting a McCain-Palin campaign sign on its marquee. The political advertisement, which reads “Country First McCain-Palin”, and was reported on today in an article in the Washington Post, has caused a minor furor in the area with local Democratic community leaders calling for a boycott of the business.

Clinton, Maryland, in exceedingly Democratic Prince George’s County (77% Democratic voter registration, one of the highest of any county in the United States) was probably not the wisest place for a business to be making a crossover into politics by supporting a Republican Presidential nominee. One is forced to wonder where is a good place for such expression though. Yard signs and bumper stickers supporting political candidates are one thing and keep the discussion within a more personal realm. But once you start mixing politics into preferably neutral public areas of life like a hotel, restaurant or typical retail establishment, you’re almost guaranteed to unnecessarily alienate a portion of your clientele.

However nobody can doubt the Colony South’s, uhhhh….moxie, nor their First Amendment right to express themselves with the campaign sign. You can takepart in protecting the First Amendment of the United States Constitution by supporting the American Civil Liberties Union.

The article stated that this area is 77% dem. which means that there are at least 23% who think a different way. That 23% is a minority, but the blacks think NOTHING of trying to take their free speech rights away. The McCain/Palin supporter has EVERY right to express his/her opinion. I hope the hotel does not fold to this bullying. I am a black republican and have seen this type of behaviour my whole life. Through the years white people have not caused problems to me, but black people with their confused logic have literally picked fist fights with me.

I personally do not know how any black person could be a democrate. It was the southern whites/democrates who used and demanded slavery. They put the dogs and water hose on us and George Wallace, Bull Connor etal. were all DEMOCRATES. Conversely, it was a Republican (r) who freed the slaves, it was a repulican (Eisenhowe) who desegregated the schools in 1957. Even the Civil Right movement in 1964 would not have passed without republican (Al Gore’s father would not vote yes for the bill) and now1000’s of black babies are being aborted and who who is supporting this, DEMOCRATES!!!

Stand tall Colony South Hotel, your detractors are ignorant PHD’s who wouldn’t know sensible logic or Civil Rights if it bit them in the butt. Idiots.
