The LA Times is holding a contest in conjunction with the premiere of The Soloist. Based on a true story, The Soloist is the story of journalist Steve Lopez ( Robert Downey Jr.) discovers Nathaniel Anthony Ayers (Jamie Foxx), a former classical music prodigy, playing his violin on the streets of L.A. The two form a friendship as Lopez tries to help the homeless man turn his life around. Here’s the trailer:
The LA Times contest “Welcome to My Story. My L.A” asks people “what does L.A. mean to you?” Submit a photo along with a brief caption about the photo explaining how it represents what L.A. means to you. You will then be able to vote for your favorite 5 photos/captions and the top 5 will be published in The Soloist Custom Published Section of the Los Angeles Times and on LATimes.com. And takepart by visiting TakePart.com/thesoloist where you can get involved with the issues explored in the film, including homelessness and mental illness, as well as the healing nature of music.
