Jay Z And The Water For Life Campaign Posted by Giulia Rozzi on October 3, 2008 at 2:29 pm

Jay Z was honored at the United Nations Global Leadership Awards Gala in New York on Wednesday for his work in Africa, where he had recently returned after working with programs to supply clean water. In honor of Jay- Z, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon rapped at the awards ceremony saying:

Since one of the honorees is my man Jay-Z, I think I’ll try his language tonight. It is a foreign language to me, but one which I love, so please bear with me.

Then he went on to rap:

With Jay-Z there’s double strife/Life for children and water for life

Jay-Z first visited Africa in 2006, and recorded an MTV documentary of his visit called The Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life. See the clip below.

Since the filming of Diary, Jay-Z has been paying for PlayPumps water systems to be installed in African villages where clean water was not available. takepart and learn more about the Water For Life campaign
