McCain Disses Letterman, Letterman Disses McCain Posted by Gina Telaroli on September 25, 2008 at 7:31 am

I wouldn’t call it good news - but the comic community is speaking up about John McCain’s latest political maneuver.   Especially funny is David Letterman’s bit from last night - McCain was supposed to be on his show last night but had to cancel to solve the economic crisis - IE, go to another part of CBS for an interview and make-up.

The more I think about this the worse I feel.   What gets me the most is that nothing short term is going to fix the economy - so nothing he does in the next 2-3 days will “fix” anything.   Which is why the CAMPAIGN and the ELECTION are so important.   Whomever we elect is going to have to create some long term solutions and it won’t be pretty.   We need to hear the candidates speak about this - together - in the same room - without material from speechwriters.

But I should calm down, it isn’t even 8am yet.   Watch the Letterman clip, try to find the humor in everything and takepart and demad the debate by signing the petition at http://www.demandthedebate2008.com/.

Also, because the debate is suppossed to be about issues and in many ways this new announcement from McCain just distracts from those issues, read a great post by fellow Takeparter Danny Jensen on the candidates positions on foreign policy.

I don’t know what school of economics or finance that you went to but this is complete nonsense. If the bailout plan DOES NOT PASS in congress, this country will go into full financial melt down. We would be looking at Great Depression II. Credit will completely dry up. Banks will not lend to anybody. Businesses will not be able to borrow. Regular people like you and me won’t be able to secure a loan to buy a car or, (oh no!) buy a house. The economy grinds to a halt. And it will last for years.

So I think you need to recognize how significant this week is in American history, and maybe (just maaaaybe, even though I know how much you hate John McCain and old white rich white guys everywhere) acknowledge the fact that a presidential campaign (one that has been going on for 2 years now) can be put on hold for 3 days so that A SENATOR CAN GO BACK TO CONGRESS AND WORK WITH OTHER SENATORS TO PASS LEGISLATION. GOD FORBID OUR SENATORS ACTUALLY DO THEIR JOB.

I recognize the importance of the debate, especially at a time of such uncertainty but there are more pressing things at hand. Like, oh I don’t know, preventing the country from sliding into economic armageddon.

But David, McCain DIDN’T go back to Congress, instead he went on an interview with Catie Couric. So stop trying to make excuses for him. He admitted he knows nothing about economics. Hell, he still has Phil “We’re all Whiners” Gramm as his head political consultant. McCain has nothing to add to the discussion. This is nothing but a political stunt to try to look presidential, and I’m not buying it! That’s why Letterman was so upset. He got dissed because McCain is trying to avoid any public appearances where he’ll get asked hard questions. That’s why he’s not going to the debate. There he’d get asked really tough questions, and he’s not prepared to answer. Next week, Palin will get asked the same hard questions, so McCain sure doesn’t want HER to speak either!!!

McCain is melting down, not the economy. He is forced to pick and choose his methods of promoting his campaign and as a result did not want to be maneuvered into disclosing anything but his mantra. Funny that he didn’t have the experience to come clean with Letterman concerning his interview in the news division. Why wouldn’t he assume that he would be spotted and reported in an outright prevarication?

“Why wouldn’t he assume that he would be spotted and reported in an outright prevarication?”

I can’t say for sure, but it seems like McCain has been telling so many fibs lately that he’s utterly lost touch with reality. He doesn’t seem to realize that every word he says is recorded and can be immediately replayed using today’s modern technology. Heck, I’ll bet he doesn’t even know what YouTube is. Someone should ask him that during the debate, if he bothers to show up that is.
