While gas prices have dropped slightly since July’s record highs, people are still looking for alternatives to our oil addiction. One solution would be for cities and towns to offer bicycle-sharing programs, to offer citizens a free, healthy and eco-friendly mode of transportation. Perhaps Earth Friend Gen, Portland’s naked cyclist, could be an ambassador of the movement.
I’ve always loved the idea of community bikes that you can just hop on whenever you need and then leave for the next person. The trend has been long popular in other countries, and is gaining traction in the U.S. Earlier this month attendees of the DNC and RNC had the opportunity to cruise around on shared cycles, and other programs are sprouting up around the country.
