But before I rant, congratulations Mad Men! Â I love you so!
But seriously, I know I already talked about my disgust that that almost no one from The Wire was nominated, but after watching mush of lasts night show I can’t help but bring this up (along with one other thing). Â What really got me last night was that the hosts and the entire show was framed around “reality tv.”
Reality TV?
They gave loads of time and attention to 5 people that host 5 “reality” programs. Â Given that they couldn’t give more than one nomination to The Wire, a show fused with more reality than any hospital, cop bull-s*** on television (that’s right folks, The Wire is MORE than a cop show) I find The Emmy’s focus for the evening unacceptable. Â I’ve never seen a show that better represented the inner-workings of a city while still managing to nail the small personal details about people who live in the various worlds of an urban city than The Wire.
The performances that cast gave were among the best I’ve seen on the small screen (and don’t just take my word for it, the show couldn’t be more critically acclaimed) and yet the Emmys thought it better to honor the regular crew, the men and women who often grace our movie screens and worse yet to spend their time celebrating “reality tv.”
And on that same note, I found it rather disturbing that they cut everyone (presenters and winners) off towards the end of the show only to spend a ridiculous amount of time presenting the award for” best reality tv host” - could there be an award any less important? I’m sorry but I would have rather heard Tom Hanks or Paul Giamatti speak for a bit longer than hear another Ryan Seacrest joke.
takepart to support The Wire and watch a few seasons.
