So I usually post trailers for movies that are upcoming, but Mister Foe opens today (in NYC) and I really wanted to post the trailer. Mainly, I want to do this because based on everything I’ve read about the film and knowing director David MacKenzie’s work (Young Adam, Asylum) I have a feeling the trailer makes the look lighter than it actually will be, I imagine it will be pretty dark. I also partly wanted to post it because I adore Jamie Bell.

More than just darker however, I have a feeling the film will also be much more explicitly sexual than the trailer lets on. (AO Scott wrote this is his review - “It’s certainly more entertaining to watch a confused young man work out his issues through kinky sex and daredevil wall-climbing than to be a fly on the wall as he talks things out with a shrink”)

But I guess I’ll have to see the movie to know any of these things for certain - I just can’t help but wonder why the folks in charge of the films marketing thought 1) They had to change the name from Hallam Foe (the European title) to Mister Foe and 2) why they thought it needed to be marketed as another quirky independent film with poppy music - don’t we have enough of that schlock already?

Alas, check out the trailer, let me know what you think and takepart to learn about a film that is the opposite of schlocky (it’s about food!)
