Life in BR now: trees down and traffic in the rearview
In addition to the news update I posted earlier, I wanted to post a few Hurricane Gustav photos taken today from the Southdowns neighborhood in Baton Rouge. Southdowns is one of Baton Rouge’s older neighborhoods and is graced with beautiful old trees, classic Louisiana and architecture, and a great Mardi Gras parade. While most roads have been cleared for traffic, debris still clutters road shoulders, including all of the taller or older trees toppled by Gustav.
The images below are from my youngest brother Tucker on Lee Drive south of Perkins Road.

Unfortunately, there's a house under there
A text from my brother Tucker:
right next to lee drive. Almost touching cars as they pass. One of the busiest streets in town and it looks like this…creepy

Debris piled roadside at the intersection of Lee and Hyacinth
Just so it’s not all doom and gloom, below please find a picture of my brother’s beagle Goose. Goose is terrified of thunder and lightning and likes to hide when things get hairy. Thunderstorms and rain bands continue to spin of Gustav’s remnants and hit affected areas. Goose reacted accordingly.

takepart and adopt a pet rescued from the hurricane. Both Goose and the other family dog Daisy (seen previously here) were adopted and are wonderful pets.

I did appreciate looking at the pictures although they were very depressing. I am very familiar with Southdowns because I grew up on Stuart Ave where the St. Aloysius church, etc. sit. That property belonged to my grandmother and her sisters and brothers, (Batiste, Sibrie, Price and Paul if someone wishes to verify the authenticity of that statement.) My family home now is in Valley Park on Bawell St. Unfortunately, some of the large trees came down, one on our home and two on my aunt’s home next door. Although I am no longer in B.R., my son and two of my sisters are in the city. I live in San Francisco and because of some very recent eye surgery I am unable to fly. I still say I will take our earthquakes every day of the week rather than the hurricanes and tornadoes. I only wish the best to all of Baton Rouge for the work that is ahead. As of now, my family is still without power.
I have prayed for all of you every day since this happened. I do go to daily mass and that is my daily petition. Good luck to all of you.
